Georgina Njenga recently opened up about her deeply personal battle with alcoholism and mental health, revealing that she has now been sober for 51 days. The mother of one disclosed that her dependence on alcohol wasn’t driven by a desire for fun but rather as a coping mechanism for emotional pain and mental health challenges.
Speaking in a candid interview, Georgina shared that her drinking habits spiraled as she attempted to escape the heartbreak and overwhelming emotions she was experiencing. Her struggle took a heavy toll on her both mentally and physically. She admitted to losing a significant amount of weight and becoming a shadow of her former self. The effects were so severe that people around her began to notice, and she became the subject of online scrutiny and criticism.
“I wasn’t drinking for fun,” she confessed. “It was a way to numb the pain. But it didn’t end well.” She cautioned others not to follow a similar path, stressing that using alcohol as an emotional escape can lead to damaging consequences. “If you choose to drink, let it be for fun, not to avoid your problems,” she advised.
Georgina revealed that during her lowest moments, alcohol often led her to regrettable actions. She found herself involved in avoidable fights and making impulsive social media posts, some of which her friends later urged her to delete. She reflected on how being drunk clouded her judgment and made her act out in ways she wouldn’t normally consider.
The turning point came when she decided to prioritize her well-being and take control of her life. Since embracing sobriety and adopting a healthier lifestyle, Georgina has gained 10 kilograms, which she views as a positive indication of her recovery. The journey hasn’t been easy, especially with the added pressure of public scrutiny. She recounted facing harsh comments and body shaming, especially during her lowest points when she appeared noticeably thinner. One particularly hurtful remark she remembered was someone saying that her tattoos no longer looked appealing and resembled pigweed because of her weight loss.
Despite all this, Georgina has remained resilient, focusing on healing and rebuilding her life. Her journey is not just about overcoming addiction but also about reclaiming her self-worth and learning to cope in healthier ways.
In the same interview, she also spoke about her past relationship with her ex-partner and the father of her child, Tyler Mbaya, popularly known as Baha. Georgina admitted that while she mostly stands by her decision to end the relationship, there’s a small part of her that carries some regret. However, she emphasized that getting back together isn’t on the table, noting that neither of them has reached out to the other even during difficult times.
Their breakup, she clarified, wasn’t due to cheating but rather behavioral concerns she feared could become toxic over time. What hurt her the most wasn’t necessarily the end of the romance but the disintegration of their family unit.
Now focused on healing, Georgina is using her story to encourage others who might be facing similar challenges. Her message is one of hope, resilience, and the importance of addressing mental health in a healthy and supportive way.
