Harambee Stars midfielder and Ulinzi Stars captain Boniface Muchiri has been promoted to the rank of Corporal in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) following his standout performances at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The promotion was presided over by Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri, who praised Muchiri for his discipline, commitment, and excellence on both national and international stages. The new ranks were formally conferred by the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Major General Luka Kutto.
Muchiri played a decisive role in Kenya’s crucial 1–0 victory over Zambia in Group A, a performance that highlighted his importance to the national side. “We are very grateful for your commitment, hard work, and excellent performance while serving Kenya and, by extension, the KDF. We wish you success in future assignments and are confident you will continue to excel,” General Kahariri said.
The midfielder’s rise has inspired many back home in Aleles village, Teso North sub-county. His mother, Mildred Akinyi, recalled his journey from humble beginnings to the national stage. After completing high school with a C+, Muchiri briefly joined Nzoia Sugar before stints with Sony Sugar and Tusker FC under veteran coach Robert Matano. He later signed for Ulinzi Stars, where he became the club’s top scorer for three consecutive seasons.
Despite an unsuccessful trial stint in the United States with La Force FC during the Covid-19 period, Muchiri returned home, joined the military, and reignited his football career. His performances for Harambee Stars have since taken him to international matches in Spain and Morocco.
During the promotion ceremony, General Kahariri also received an interim report on Ulinzi Stars’ performance between 2020–2025. The assessment covered coaching, player welfare, recruitment, and infrastructure, with proposals to strengthen the club’s competitiveness. He pledged KDF leadership’s full support in implementing the recommendations.
Muchiri’s promotion underscores the military’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent while rewarding excellence in service. For the people of Teso North, his success continues to serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration.
