Popular Bongo Flava artist Harmonize has officially announced his entry into politics, revealing his intention to vie for the Tandahimba parliamentary seat in the 2025 general elections. The announcement has sparked a wave of reactions across Tanzania, as fans and critics weigh in on the singer’s unexpected political move.
Born Rajabu Abdul Kahali in Chitoholi Village, Tandahimba District in Mtwara Region, Harmonize has expressed a deep connection to his roots. His declaration was first hinted at through a social media post, where he confidently stated, “Tandahimba Member of Parliament 2025 Inshallah October.” He accompanied the post with slogans supporting the ruling party CCM, under which he plans to run.
The singer’s political aspirations, however, are not entirely new. Back in 2019, the late President John Pombe Magufuli had publicly mentioned Harmonize, suggesting he should consider running for a parliamentary seat in his home constituency. At the time, Harmonize did not act on the endorsement, possibly due to his focus on building his music career. But it now seems the idea planted years ago has matured into real ambition.
In a recent interview, the artist confirmed that he is serious about pursuing the seat and intends to seek nomination through the proper channels. He emphasized that the announcement was not a publicity stunt, but a genuine declaration of intent. He plans to officially present himself to the party and obtain the necessary forms once the election period begins.
Public reaction to his announcement has been mixed. Some supporters applauded the move, describing it as the fulfillment of a dream first endorsed by a former president. One fan commented that the seat was more than just a political position—it was a legacy handed down by the late Magufuli. Others were skeptical, suggesting that becoming a Member of Parliament should require more than fame and popularity. Some critics joked about the trend of celebrities venturing into politics, likening Harmonize’s potential new role to a symbolic title like “Minister of Love and Marriage.”
Amid the buzz around Harmonize, another prominent Tanzanian artist, Ali Kiba, has also made headlines—but for different reasons. Members of the Tanzanian Parliament recently praised Ali Kiba for his exemplary behavior and dignified image. During a session in Parliament, he was highlighted as a positive example within the entertainment industry, especially when compared to other artists whose lifestyles and conduct have often stirred controversy. Lawmakers noted his humility, moral integrity, and consistent professionalism, marking him as a role model for the youth.
As for Harmonize, his transition from a music star to a political aspirant continues to unfold. Whether his popularity will translate into political support remains to be seen, but his candidacy has already brought new energy and attention to the Tandahimba constituency.
