After nearly eight years apart, former Ya Moto Band members Mbosso and Aslay Isihaka have finally reunited a moment that has stirred nostalgia and reignited hope for a possible comeback of the once-dominant Bongo Flava group.
Mbosso, who recently exited Diamond Platnumz’s Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB) label, shared an emotional post on Instagram capturing his reunion with Aslay. “Imagine, the last time we met was in 2017… After about eight years, we finally met again yesterday,” he wrote. The heartfelt message concluded with a tribute to his former bandmate: “Was nice to see you my legendary brother @aslayisihaka.”
Ya Moto Band, known for hits like Nitakupwelepweta and Cheza kwa Madoido, took East Africa by storm before disbanding in 2017. The group, composed of Mbosso, Aslay, Beka Flavour, and Enock Bella, had developed a unique chemistry that blended smooth vocals with streetwise Swahili lyrics, making them household names in Tanzania and beyond.

Though the recent reunion appears to have been informal, the encounter has stirred buzz on social media, with fans and public figures alike chiming in. Celebrated media personality Willy M Tuva commented, “What I love seeing. Upendo udumu vijana wangu,” while another fan, Yusuf Mkule, put it bluntly: “Sitaki kuwapangia ila wenyewe mnajua mashabiki wenu tunataka nini. Full stop.”
Despite their solo successes, fans have always yearned for a collaboration or even a full-fledged reunion of the band. The chemistry between Mbosso and Aslay is undeniable, and their bond strengthened over years of shared struggle and growth remains intact.
Whether this emotional link-up leads to new music or a revival of the Ya Moto Band remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the flame of Bongo Flava nostalgia is burning bright, and fans are ready. If ever there was a time for Ya Moto Band to rise again, it just might be now.
