Jamaican music producer Tarik Johnston, popularly known as Rvssian, is mourning the tragic and unexpected death of his brother. The internationally acclaimed hitmaker took to Instagram on Monday, July 28, to share the heartbreaking news with his fans, revealing that his brother had passed away the previous day.
“Yesterday, I found out that my brother had suddenly passed away. It’s been hard to process, and I’m still trying to come to terms with it,” he wrote in an emotional post. Rvssian also expressed the need for time and space to grieve privately, adding, “This is a very difficult time for me and my family. I may be quiet on social media for a while as I take time to deal with everything.”
Despite the devastating loss, Rvssian showed unwavering dedication to his craft, announcing that he would continue working on his latest music project, Story Book Riddim. He noted that completing the project would be a tribute to the artists involved who invested their energy and time. “Even though things are heavy right now, I will do my best to complete it out of respect for the artists,” he said.

Rvssian is the founder of Head Concussion Records, a Kingston-based production label that has shaped the sound of modern dancehall and reggae fusion. He rose to fame in 2010 after producing Vybz Kartel’s hit track Life Sweet, and has since collaborated with numerous artists including Konshens, J Capri, Sean Paul, and Farruko.
His track “Passion Whine,” produced for Sean Paul and Farruko, earned platinum certification from the RIAA in 2014. Rvssian has also garnered accolades such as Favourite Local Music Video at the 2011 Youth View Awards, Favourite Producer in 2015, and a Billboard Latin Music Award nomination in 2022.
As he steps back from the public eye to grieve, fans and fellow artists have flooded social media with condolences and messages of support. Rvssian’s ability to remain committed to his music during such a personal tragedy speaks volumes about his resilience and deep respect for the creative community he leads.
