Media personality Janet Mbugua has opened up about the emotional and social upheaval she experienced following her divorce from Eddie Ndichu, offering a candid glimpse into the often unseen aftermath of marital separation.
Speaking in a heartfelt interview with podcaster Adelle Onyango, the former TV anchor shared how her life changed significantly after parting ways with Ndichu. The couple, who tied the knot in a vibrant ceremony at Chaka Ranch in Nyeri County in 2015, had been the picture of a modern, successful union. However, by 2019, rumours of a separation began circulating as the pair was no longer seen living together. In 2022, Janet officially filed for divorce, a matter that remains active in court.
Though she has refrained from disclosing the reasons behind the split, Janet has not shied away from speaking about the emotional cost. “There’s a difference between life before and after divorce – like two different societies,” she said. She revealed the subtle but painful shifts in her social life, including no longer being invited to gatherings where couples were expected. “No one says it outright, but when you’re not a ‘plus one’ anymore, there’s this quiet shift.

”Janet also shared that a friend who went through a similar experience affirmed the reality of this “subconscious profiling,” particularly in communal settings like residential estates. These changes, though rarely spoken about, have been deeply felt.
Despite the challenges, Janet has found strength and support in her family. Her younger sister, Sharon Mbugua, a mental health advocate, described her as a resilient go-getter. “I’m proud of Janet. Her resilience challenges me. Ever since the divorce, she hasn’t looked back,” Sharon said, adding that she continues to support her sister and spend time with her children.
As Janet continues to navigate life after divorce, her openness offers a powerful reminder of the silent battles many face and the importance of support, healing, and self-discovery in the aftermath of major life transitions.
