Presidential hopeful and businessman Jimi Wanjigi recently opened up about the romantic journey that led him to marry his wife, Irene Nzisa. In a candid podcast interview, Wanjigi revealed that their love story began at a birthday party where he was introduced to Irene by her sister. From the moment he met her, he was convinced she was the one.
“It was instant,” Wanjigi recalled. “I told my friend, who was also the birthday boy, that I had found my wife that day.” He went on to share how he and Irene went out just two or three days after their first meeting, and during that first date, he boldly told her that she was going to be his wife. At the time, Irene was only 22 years old, and his declaration left her visibly shaken.
Their whirlwind romance blossomed quickly. Within three months, Wanjigi proposed. Less than a year after their first encounter, the couple was married. Reflecting on his decision, Wanjigi said he had no doubts and followed his instincts. “If your gut is right, then work on your fears. She is the love of my life—my true love. She is all in one.”
The couple has since built a strong and enduring relationship and are parents to two children. Wanjigi’s admiration and deep affection for Irene are evident in the way he speaks about her, calling her his unwavering support system and the woman who stood by him through some of the most challenging times in his life.
He also humorously endorsed women from Irene’s region, saying that they make some of the best wives. He praised her loyalty and bravery, especially during a difficult period when their home was raided by authorities. According to Wanjigi, Irene’s strength shone through during the ordeal, and she went to great lengths to protect him. In one particularly tense moment, she even helped hide him from police officers during the raid in 2017.
In another widely circulated video, Irene could be seen pleading with police officers not to harm her husband when they managed to enter their home. She was with their children and Wanjigi’s mother at the time, and her emotional plea captured the hearts of many Kenyans. The incident drew widespread condemnation, with people expressing outrage over what was seen as an act of intimidation.
Through all this, Irene remained steadfast. During a press briefing following the incident, she was seen clinging to her husband, gently resting her head on his chest as lawyers addressed the media.
