Former radio presenter Joyce Gituro has issued a public apology following backlash over a comment she made regarding the suspension of a Nairobi Baptist Church pastor over serious allegations of misconduct.
The controversy erupted after Gituro responded to a statement released by the church announcing that Pastor Munengi Mulandi had been suspended and his ordination revoked. In her now-deleted comment, Gituro questioned the church’s decision to publicize the matter, suggesting that it was unnecessarily damaging to the pastor’s reputation. “Why put it on social media? You are damaging a brother more,” she wrote.
However, Gituro has since retracted her statement and apologized, clarifying that she had spoken without full knowledge of the gravity of the situation.
“I shared a comment yesterday, unaware of the full and serious nature of the pastor’s suspension. I assumed it was an internal disciplinary matter and reacted to what seemed like public shaming. Once I learned the truth, I deleted the post,” she said in a statement.
The former radio host emphasized that she does not condone abuse in any form and that her initial comment was not intended to dismiss or undermine the experiences of any victims involved.
“Let me be clear: I stand firmly against all forms of abuse, especially as a mother and a Christian. I totally regret my fast reaction to that story,” she added.

The Nairobi Baptist Church, in its official statement released on August 3, revealed that Mulandi ceased to serve as Senior Pastor effective June 1, 2025, following serious allegations of misconduct. The church’s Elders Council, after reviewing his actions against biblical standards, found them incompatible with pastoral responsibilities and consequently revoked his ordination.
The statement noted that an independent investigation will be launched to determine the full extent and impact of the allegations. The church affirmed its commitment to transparency, due process, and truth.
Gituro’s apology comes amid growing public conversations about how religious institutions handle allegations of misconduct and the importance of supporting victims while maintaining accountability within leadership.
