Karangu Muraya has finally opened up about a recent incident in Murang’a that left many speculating about what really happened. The popular Kikuyu gospel musician and philanthropist has been under scrutiny after a viral video showed him being escorted by police officers as some residents jeered him in the background. Contrary to the narrative suggesting he was chased away, Karangu has given a different account of the events.
He explained that he had been officially invited to Murang’a, where he attended a number of scheduled meetings. The visit was proceeding smoothly until he received a phone call from the head of Murang’a GK Prison. According to Karangu, the officer wanted to meet and discuss some pressing needs for the inmates. As someone well known for his charitable efforts, Karangu agreed to meet and offer support.
During the meeting, he listened to the challenges faced at the facility and promised to help by providing some essential items. Following the discussion, Karangu headed to a shop in town to make the necessary purchases. However, he couldn’t find all the items in one place and had to visit another shop to complete the shopping.
While waiting for his purchases to be packed, Karangu noted that the police vehicle seen in the video was not there to rescue him but had been assigned to assist him with logistics. As he stood outside the shop, a group of men approached him and requested money for tea. He obliged, stating that he saw no harm in helping them.
The situation escalated slightly when another group arrived chanting what he described as “Wantam.” Interpreting this as a potential escalation, Karangu opted to leave the area calmly. He asked the police driver to unlock the vehicle so he could return to the prison compound. Once there, he handed over his car keys to the officer to help retrieve his personal vehicle.
Karangu strongly dismissed claims that he had been attacked or needed rescue, saying he left by choice to avoid any unnecessary confrontation. He emphasized that he is not a politician and urged the public not to be swayed by political narratives aimed at tarnishing his name. His message was clear: despite the drama surrounding the event, his intentions in Murang’a were purely philanthropic.
Adding to the discussion, Karangu’s second wife, Carol Kim, reassured the public through a now-deleted social media post that he was safe and in good condition. Her message was intended to counter the growing rumors but sparked mixed reactions online, which likely led to its removal.
Karangu concluded his remarks by appealing for peace and understanding, insisting that his visit was not politically motivated. He urged people not to be quick to judge or spread misinformation without knowing the full context. His final message was one of brotherhood, asking citizens not to allow political divisions to turn them against one another.
