Bishop Kathy Kiuna recently opened up about a major financial burden she shared with her late husband, Bishop Allan Kiuna, during a touching tribute at his memorial. The couple had taken out a substantial loan years ago to purchase land for their church, Jubilee Christian Church (JCC) Parklands, a bold step that demonstrated their unwavering faith and commitment to their ministry.
According to Kathy, they secured a KSh 250 million loan approximately 15 years ago, intending to establish a permanent home for their church. Over the years, they made consistent repayments and had paid back a staggering KSh 430 million—far more than the principal borrowed. However, after Allan’s passing, Kathy was shocked to learn from the bank that they still owed KSh 196 million. She recalled being completely baffled by the numbers, saying the figures just didn’t add up. Despite their immense efforts and sacrifices—including being ready to sell their family home to clear the debt—they were still facing a huge financial burden.
Kathy recounted one of the final conversations she had with her husband. While lying in a hospital bed, Allan told her not to worry about the loan, assuring her that everything had been taken care of. At the time, she didn’t fully grasp the weight of his words, but later realized the significance.
Three weeks after Allan’s passing, the bank reached out with surprising news—they had decided to waive KSh 120 million from the outstanding debt. This left a remaining balance of KSh 74 million. Determined to honor her husband’s legacy and free the church from its financial chains, Kathy reached out to an apostle in their ministry. He rallied support from his network, and in what she described as a miraculous moment, pledges for the remaining amount were collected within just one hour.
Kathy emotionally shared that the church was finally debt-free and that they had received the title deed. Reflecting on the journey, she said she and her husband had even offered their personal home as collateral to ensure the debt would be paid, emphasizing the level of sacrifice they were willing to make for their calling.
Beyond the financial story, Kathy also reminisced about her 30-year marriage with Allan. The two had a love story rooted in faith and friendship. She recalled their early encounters at church and how Allan’s persistence eventually led to their first date at Utalii Hotel, one of the trendiest spots at the time. Their relationship blossomed from there, and they went on to build both a family and a ministry together.
During the memorial, Kathy shared her gratitude for the spiritual mentors who supported their union and for the love that continued to surround her family. Alongside her children, Jeremy and Vanessa, she visited Allan’s grave, laying flowers and offering heartfelt prayers in a deeply emotional moment of remembrance and closure.
