Musician Kevin Bahati recently opened up about a legal dispute involving renowned footballer Victor Wanyama. The issue stemmed from Bahati sharing an old photo of Wanyama with Diana Marua—Bahati’s wife—as part of a promotional effort for his Netflix show. Although the photo had circulated online previously, its resurfacing sparked unexpected legal action.
Bahati explained that Victor Wanyama initially tried to resolve the matter privately. Wanyama attempted to contact him through his brother, McDonald Mariga, who happens to be a good friend of Bahati. Unfortunately, Bahati missed Mariga’s warning messages. He admitted that he was deeply preoccupied with preparing for the launch of his Netflix show at the time, which led to delays in responding. By the time he realized what was happening, Wanyama had already served him with legal documents.
Reflecting on the incident, Bahati stated that he didn’t believe Wanyama’s actions were malicious. He acknowledged that Wanyama made several attempts to reach him before resorting to legal measures. Bahati also shared that even after receiving a text from a lawyer, he didn’t respond promptly because he didn’t initially recognize the seriousness of the matter.
In court, Bahati explained to Wanyama that the photo in question had already been widely circulated on social media. He emphasized that he had shared it in a lighthearted context, partly referencing the fact that his adopted son, Morgan, has often been said to resemble Wanyama. Bahati recounted that Wanyama attended the court session in person, and during the encounter, Bahati offered a sincere apology, both face-to-face and online.
He noted that he didn’t want to argue or escalate the situation, choosing instead to acknowledge the misunderstanding and take responsibility. However, when crafting his online apology, Bahati pointed out a dilemma—he needed to include the photo in his post for context, which could have reignited the controversy. Despite this, he made sure to express regret and clarify that no harm was intended.
According to Bahati, part of the reason Wanyama may have pursued the issue more seriously could have been due to pressure from his own wife. Nonetheless, Bahati reiterated that his intention in posting the photo was to demonstrate that he harbored no insecurity or resentment over Diana’s past, and that he actually holds Wanyama in high regard.
Beyond the legal saga, Bahati also shared personal insights into his family life. He revealed that he has three brothers, though sadly one passed away, and he also has an older sister. Their relationship has been strained for some time, largely due to past conflicts involving Diana. At one point, Bahati’s sister allegedly sent a false prophet to accuse Diana of stealing from him, a move that left a lasting impact. Although communication between them still exists, the betrayal has left emotional scars that haven’t fully healed.
In summary, Bahati’s experience underscores the complexities of public life, where even well-intentioned actions can lead to legal disputes and strained relationships. Despite the tension, Bahati emphasized that he still respects Wanyama and views the incident as a misunderstanding rather than a personal attack.
