Konde Gang Music Worldwide, the Tanzanian record label founded by renowned artist Harmonize, has suspended its artist Ibrahim Abdallah Nampunga, professionally known as Ibraah, from all musical activities. The suspension, which will remain in effect until the matter is resolved in accordance with Ibraah’s contract and Tanzanian law, is a direct result of alleged behavior deemed disrespectful towards Harmonize, the label’s CEO.
The label’s statement clarified that during this suspension, Ibraah is prohibited from releasing any new music, performing, or engaging in any musical ventures outlined in his contract. Additionally, he is not allowed to make public statements or post on social media about the dispute. The label emphasized that any actions that could potentially damage the reputation of Konde Gang or Harmonize are strictly forbidden.
As the situation gains media attention, the National Arts Council of Tanzania (BASATA) has stepped in to help mediate the dispute. Both Harmonize and Ibraah have been summoned to appear before BASATA on Monday, May 12, 2025. While the specific details of the meeting are not yet clear, it is expected to serve as a platform for reconciliation and legal resolution, aiming to resolve the issue for the benefit of both the artists and the broader Tanzanian music industry.
The relationship between Ibraah and Konde Gang has been complex since the artist signed with the label in 2020 as its first official act. Their professional partnership has been marked by both success and public tensions. In 2022, Ibraah expressed his gratitude for the label’s role in managing his career but also hinted that he might consider leaving if the terms of his contract were not met. This sentiment of dissatisfaction seemed to intensify in 2023, particularly when Ibraah released the track “Hapa” after a year-long hiatus. The song appeared to reference some of the professional struggles he faced, though Harmonize promoted the track on social media. Despite this, cracks in their relationship became more visible.
With Ibraah’s recent suspension and the looming BASATA mediation, the future of his career with Konde Gang remains uncertain. This dispute raises questions about the long-term sustainability of their collaboration and what it means for the artist’s future in the Tanzanian music scene. As both parties prepare for the BASATA meeting, the outcome will likely have significant implications for their professional paths and could reshape their relationship going forward.
