Lavalava has reportedly parted ways with WCB Wasafi, a record label founded by Tanzanian Bongo Fleva star Diamond Platnumz. This news comes shortly after the exit of another artist, Mbosso, from the same label. Lavalava’s departure leaves WCB Wasafi with only two artists: Zuchu, introduced in 2020, and DVoice, who joined in 2023.
The news of Lavalava’s exit became public through social media, where a close associate of Diamond Platnumz shared a photo of the artist, accompanied by a message of encouragement for his future endeavors outside the label. The post acknowledged Lavalava’s talent and highlighted the role played by Diamond Platnumz in fostering his artistic journey. The message also emphasized Diamond’s consistent support, both creatively and financially, including their various collaborations.
The departure is framed as a positive step, indicating that Lavalava is now capable of pursuing his career independently. This change is seen as an opportunity for WCB Wasafi to introduce new talent to the music scene. The sentiment expressed was that Lavalava had matured as an artist and could now thrive without the label’s direct support.
Lavalava joined WCB Wasafi in 2015, but his official introduction as a signed artist occurred in 2017 with the release of his hit song “Tuachane.” This track marked his formal entry into the WCB Wasafi lineup. During his time with the label, he released several songs and collaborated with other prominent artists.
In recent months, Lavalava faced growing criticism from some fans who felt his recent musical projects under WCB Wasafi lacked the impact of his earlier work. Following Mbosso’s exit two months prior, some speculated that Lavalava might also choose a new path, especially as expectations continued to rise.
Throughout WCB Wasafi’s history, other artists have also moved on to pursue independent ventures. Harmonize, who joined in 2015, left in 2019 to establish his own label, Konde Music Worldwide. Rich Mavoko signed with the label in 2016 but departed in 2018. Rayvanny, another notable figure, was with the label from 2016 to 2022 before founding Next Level Music.
With Lavalava leaving, WCB Wasafi’s current artist roster is significantly smaller, comprising only Zuchu and DVoice. This transition could mark a new chapter for the label as it seeks to nurture emerging talent while Lavalava embarks on his solo journey.
