Fast-rising content creator Lenny Vybzz, born Linus Kilplimo, has quickly become one of Kenya’s most relatable and entertaining comedy voices. At just 22, his witty storytelling and authentic humor have earned him a loyal following and a respected place in Kenya’s vibrant digital comedy scene.
Discovering His Talent in High School
Lenny first realized he had a gift for comedy while in Form 2, drawing inspiration from Kenyan comedic giants such as Crazy Kennar. He dreamed of creating skits that would evoke the same laughter and relatability as those of his role models. After completing high school, he enrolled at Cooperative University in 2021 to study Software Engineering—an environment that helped him refine and take his content creation journey more seriously.
The Viral Ruto Impersonation
One of Lenny’s standout moments came during the 2024 Gen Z Anti-Finance Bill protests. While brainstorming with friends on how to educate the public through humor, he decided to impersonate President William Ruto. Wearing the president’s iconic hat, Lenny delivered a performance that instantly caught national attention. The video went viral, cementing his name as a creator to watch.
Despite this breakthrough, Lenny believes his real financial turning point came later in October 2024 when he posted a skit portraying a Kalenjin man. The clip attracted massive traction and opened doors to brand partnerships and collaborations.
Comedy Inspired by Everyday Life
Lenny’s creative process relies heavily on observation. He believes that ordinary daily situations make the best content when approached with authenticity. “Even everyday situations can be transformed into skits if you know what works,” he says, crediting timing and originality as vital ingredients for a viral moment.
Challenges Behind the Scenes
Lenny’s journey, like many young creators’, has not been without struggles. In September 2024, he and his friends were arrested while filming a skit involving toy guns after a concerned passerby mistook the props for real weapons. Though they were released within hours without charges, the experience taught him the importance of caution and situational awareness during shoots.
Financial challenges have also been part of his path. Some of his skits require substantial investment—Lenny once spent over KSh 10,000 to shoot a single one-minute video. Despite this, he remains persistent, driven by the belief that high-quality content always pays off in the long run.
Handling Criticism and Staying Motivated
Lenny has not been spared from online criticism and negativity. Yet, he embraces it as part of the growth process. “When you don’t have any haters, it means you’re not doing anything,” he says, viewing backlash as motivation to keep improving.
Future Plans: Building an Entertainment and Tech Empire
Looking ahead, Lenny aims to merge his software engineering background with his creative talents by establishing an entertainment and software company. His goal is to support emerging creators and provide a structured platform that nurtures talent across Kenya.
To upcoming content creators, he offers simple but powerful advice: “Content creation is like a bus; you must keep moving and picking up passengers along the way. Consistency beats talent any day.”
The Journey Continues
From a high school dream to becoming a viral sensation, Lenny Vybzz embodies resilience, creativity, and determination. His story reflects the evolving landscape of digital entertainment in Kenya—where passion, innovation, and authenticity can propel anyone to success.
