Citizen TV presenter Lillian Muli has come out strongly to defend her reputation after a man posted fabricated claims about her personal life on Facebook. The viral post painted Muli as “desperate for a man” and even fabricated details about her past relationship and divorce.
The Allegations
The individual, identified as Dancan Odhiambo, alleged that Muli was seeking a “strong young man” and was ready to support him financially as long as he respected her. He went further to claim that the journalist had previously declared she would never date broke men, that she was “not cut out for marriage,” and falsely alleged that she had been divorced by her ex-husband, Kanene.
The post attempted to portray Muli’s personal life as troubled, sparking reactions online before the TV anchor stepped in to set the record straight.
Muli’s Firm Response
Muli, who is widely known for keeping her private life away from the spotlight, responded decisively. She expressed her frustration with the spread of baseless information and accused Odhiambo of attempting to profit from her name for clout.
“I usually don’t comment on such, but I’m willing to have a chat with this ‘honorable,’ as he calls himself. When we stay silent, such characters make it a habit to tarnish the names of people who have worked for years to build their brands. Do not try me!” she warned.
Calling Out Clickbait Culture
Muli urged Odhiambo to focus on personal effort and constructive work rather than chasing online attention by spreading false narratives. She pointed out that hard work and creativity yield far more respect than attempting to make “small coins off people’s names.”
She went on to dismiss the claims as laughable: “Any right-thinking person knows this is total rubbish that you have written. Stop writing things about people you do not know or have never met in the name of clickbait. It’s pathetic. There! I’ve made you famous. I hope it helps you sleep better at night.”
Protecting Her Family
While Muli occasionally shares glimpses of her family, she has remained protective of her children. In the past, she posted a touching photo of her 14-year-old son, Joshua Munene, praising his football skills but making it clear she is careful about exposing him to online scrutiny.
Standing Against Defamation
The seasoned journalist’s strong rebuttal highlights her commitment to defending her reputation and standing firm against misinformation. Her response also sheds light on the broader issue of digital defamation, where public figures are often targeted by individuals seeking clout through sensational claims.
