Lindsay Lohan is officially back on the big screen, and she’s doing it with a nostalgic twist. The actress stars in Freakier Friday, the much-anticipated sequel to Disney’s 2003 hit Freaky Friday, reprising her role as Anna Coleman alongside Jamie Lee Curtis, who returns as Tess Coleman.
Now 39 and a mother herself, Lohan says the film feels deeply personal. “It felt full circle for me,” she shared at the movie’s London premiere on Thursday. “The timing was pretty impeccable considering that I’m a new mom and I was able to bring being a mom into the character. It’s the first time I’m able to do that on screen.”
The 2025 sequel takes the original body-swap premise to the next level. This time, both Tess and Anna find themselves swapping bodies not just with each other, but with their respective teenage daughters, Harper (played by Julia Butters) and Lily (Sophia Hammons). Harper is Anna’s tomboy daughter, while Lily is the daughter of Anna’s fiancé Eric, played by The Good Place star Manny Jacinto.
The movie explores the challenges of blended families and intergenerational relationships. Lohan emphasized the importance of showing Anna’s growth over the years. “It was important to me that we explained who Anna is today and how she’s evolved. She’s a single working mom, and I wanted her to feel relatable.
”

Directed by Nisha Ganatra, Freakier Friday also features the return of Chad Michael Murray as Jake, Anna’s love interest from the original film. “It was the same, but better,” Murray said of the filming experience. “Everyone loved going to work, and no one wanted to go home.”
With a reported budget of $26 million (Ksh.3.3 billion), the film is expected to build on the cult following of its predecessor, which grossed over $160 million (Ksh.20.66 billion) worldwide.
Freakier Friday marks a major comeback for Lohan, who says she’s focused on projects that make audiences happy. “As long as people are enjoying what I’m doing and it’s making them happy, then I feel like I’m doing my job.”
The film begins its global cinematic release on August 6.
