Royal Media Services Group Editorial Director Linus Kaikai is among 916 petitioners set to be admitted to the Bar as Advocates of the High Court of Kenya, marking a significant career milestone for the veteran journalist and media strategist.
Gazette Notice and Legal Procedure
A gazette notice published on October 26 listed Kaikai’s name among the candidates who have fulfilled all the requirements for admission. The notice invites any public objections to be submitted within 30 days before the final vetting and swearing-in ceremony. Once this period concludes, the petitioners’ names will be reviewed before they take the Oath of Admission and sign the Roll of Advocates, officially earning the right to practice law in Kenya.
Under the Advocates Act, the Chief Justice must hear and determine all petitions within 90 days of publication. Successful candidates, including Kaikai, will then be sworn in before the Chief Justice during a ceremony that formally inducts them into the country’s legal fraternity.
Kaikai’s Distinguished Career in Media
Kaikai’s inclusion in the list has drawn widespread public interest due to his long-standing influence in Kenyan journalism. As the Group Editorial Director and Head of Strategy at Royal Media Services (RMS), he oversees prominent platforms such as Citizen TV, Inooro TV, Ramogi TV, and Radio Citizen. His leadership has played a pivotal role in shaping editorial direction and upholding journalistic integrity across the network.
Before joining RMS, Kaikai served as the General Manager of Broadcasting at Nation Media Group and previously led the Kenya Editors Guild as its president. His tenure in the industry has been marked by his commitment to responsible journalism and fostering critical national dialogue.
A Legacy in Political Journalism
Kaikai first rose to national prominence in 2013 when he moderated Kenya’s inaugural presidential debate, which featured eight candidates in a live broadcast that redefined political communication in the country. He returned as a moderator for the 2017 presidential debate and later served as the executive producer for the 2022 edition, further establishing his legacy as one of Kenya’s most respected broadcast journalists.
Academic and Professional Excellence
Beyond his media career, Kaikai brings a strong academic background to his legal ambitions. He holds a Master’s degree in International Journalism from the University of Westminster (UK), a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Nairobi, and a Diploma in Radio and Television Production from the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC).
A New Chapter in a Storied Career
Kaikai’s transition into law represents the convergence of two powerful disciplines — media and legal advocacy. With decades of experience shaping national discourse, his entry into the legal profession reflects a pursuit of broader impact through justice and policy. His unique combination of journalistic integrity and legal training positions him as a multifaceted professional equipped to contribute meaningfully to both fields.
