Kenyan musician Marya, known for her hit song Chokoza, has appealed to the public for financial support after being hospitalised for the second time this year. The artist revealed that ongoing health challenges have left her unable to work, forcing her to rely on others for assistance.
The Incident Leading to Hospitalisation
In a series of Instagram Stories, Marya recounted the incident that prompted her recent hospital visit. She was at home holding her youngest child when the baby slipped from her arms. While attempting to pick up the child, she collapsed. Fortunately, her househelp was nearby and immediately called one of Marya’s cousins, who rushed her to the hospital.
Marya suspected she was experiencing another stroke, a condition she had battled earlier this year, which had left her paralysed on one side of her body. Despite the paralysis, she remains hopeful about regaining movement and resuming normal life.
Medical and Financial Challenges
Marya disclosed that she had experienced multiple episodes of collapsing since her initial stroke. During her latest hospitalisation, doctors conducted several tests and cleared her to return home. However, pending medical bills have left her confined to the hospital bed, prompting her to appeal to well-wishers for support.
She shared her M-Pesa Paybill number and bank account details, encouraging the public to contribute to her medical fund. The musician’s plea highlights the difficulties artists face when sudden health crises impact their ability to earn a living.
Public Support and Messages of Encouragement
The appeal drew an outpouring of support from netizens, who offered prayers and words of encouragement. Comments included: “If I conquered it so will you, keep up the faith my dear. It shall be well,” and “We are praying for your healing girl.” Many also pledged financial support toward her medical expenses, demonstrating solidarity with the artist during her time of need.
Emotional and Social Struggles
Marya candidly revealed that some friends had abandoned her during her health challenges, underscoring the emotional and social hardships that accompany serious illness. Despite these difficulties, she remains determined to recover and regain her independence.
Raising Awareness
Through her story, Marya has not only appealed for immediate assistance but also raised awareness about the struggles faced by stroke survivors. Her situation highlights the importance of community support, timely medical care, and the social challenges that often accompany debilitating health conditions.
