Veteran Tanzanian singer Mrisho Mpoto has been plunged into deep mourning following the untimely death of his beloved wife. The legendary artist, widely known for his poetic songs and collaborations with top artists, opened up about the devastating loss in an emotional account that has left many heartbroken.
Mrisho and his wife were married for 26 years and blessed with two children. He announced her passing through a heartfelt post online, expressing disbelief and sorrow. His tribute revealed the depth of their bond and the pain of losing someone so close.
According to Mrisho, his wife had battled high blood pressure for five years and was under regular medical supervision. In the days leading up to her death, the couple was actively involved in preparations for the wedding of one of their adopted daughters. She had been out shopping for wedding attire when she began feeling unwell and called him to say her blood pressure was elevated. Concerned, Mrisho rushed to pick her up and took her to the hospital. After receiving treatment, her condition stabilized and they returned home.
That evening, Mrisho’s wife made a special request—she asked him to call their religious leader to pray for her. When the call went unanswered, they began reminiscing about their relationship. In a moment filled with both humor and tenderness, she asked him when they last showered together. They joked about it and later, around 2 a.m., she asked him to bathe her. He did so and afterward, they lay in bed, where she requested a long hug. They embraced and eventually drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, she woke up but her condition had not fully improved. They returned to the hospital where she was once again treated and her pressure was brought under control. While still at the facility, she requested to use the washroom. Tragically, she collapsed while there and did not return. Medical personnel informed Mrisho that she had suffered a fatal heart attack.
What haunted him most, he said, were the deeply emotional and intimate moments they shared the night before she passed—the bath, the embrace, her words. She had told him on the way to the hospital that she felt she wouldn’t make it back home. Those words have continued to echo in his mind, adding to the weight of his grief.
Mrisho described his wife as more than a partner—she was his best friend, a cheerleader in every sense, a confidant who always stood by him, and a woman whose support had been the backbone of his life and career. He shared that no words could fully describe who she was to him, and that her passing had left an irreplaceable void.
Her burial was scheduled to take place the same day in Dar es Salaam, in a public cemetery, with friends, family, and fans mourning alongside the artist.
In a separate tragedy, Kenyan comedian KK Mwenyewe also passed away while receiving treatment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. Known for his witty political impersonations, KK captured hearts across the country with his sharp, creative humor. His death sparked an outpouring of grief, with fans and fellow artists mourning the loss of a unique voice in comedy. His passing also reignited conversations around how public figures are supported during their struggles, especially after it emerged that he had long asked for help that never came in time.
