Comedian Nasra Yusuff has won the admiration of Kenyans after leading a successful online fundraiser that collected over KSh 200,000 for a man who had reached out to her in desperation.
A Cry for Help
The story began when Nicholas Maroro, a smokie vendor, messaged Nasra privately. He confessed that he was struggling financially, battling depression, and overwhelmed by his pregnant wife’s hospital bills and household expenses.
Deeply moved, Nasra initially sent him KSh 20,000. However, the money was mistakenly transferred to the wrong account. While she worked to reverse the payment, she decided to share Nicholas’s story online, urging her fans to contribute whatever they could — even as little as KSh 100 — or donate baby clothes and essentials.
An Overwhelming Response
The appeal struck a chord. Within a short time, Kenyans had raised more than KSh 200,000 for Nicholas and his wife. Well-wishers went beyond cash, pledging to organize a baby shower, provide a venue, sponsor photo shoots, and donate clothes for the unborn child. Meanwhile, Nasra’s original KSh 20,000 was eventually recovered.
A Heartfelt Moment
In a recorded phone call, an emotional Nicholas expressed his gratitude, while Nasra reassured him: “Thank you for reaching out and opening up. Don’t panic, everything will be okay. The baby will come into a safe environment because we are all rooting for you. Kila kitu kitakuwa sawa.”
Reflecting later, Nasra admitted she normally ignores such messages but felt a divine nudge this time: “God had a reason why I had to open that message in the middle of the night. I only intended to send KSh 20,000, but God moved others to give more than I ever could.”
Kenyans Celebrate Her Kindness
Nasra shared screenshots of ongoing pledges and promised to visit Nicholas and his family soon, saying she now considers them her own. Her act of kindness has warmed the hearts of many Kenyans, who praised her for using her influence to transform lives in a tangible way.
Her story is a reminder of the power of compassion — and how small acts can ripple into life-changing support when a community comes together.
