Kenyan music icon Nazizi is celebrating a major milestone in her life—her son Tafari, lovingly called Tafgong, has turned 15. In a moving social media post, she poured her heart out, sharing deep reflections on motherhood, love, loss, and the unwavering pride she feels watching her son grow.
Marking the special day, Nazizi looked back at her journey as a mother with tenderness and gratitude. She reminisced about the day Tafari was born, revealing that he made his grand entrance into the world on the very day of his baby shower—a detail that, even then, hinted at the bold and memorable personality he would grow to have.
“Thanks for making me Mama Tafari and teaching me all I know about motherhood,” she shared. “Just like you made a grand entrance into the world—choosing your baby shower as your delivery date—you continue to make grand entrances in every stage of your life.”
Now a teenager, Tafari is growing into a focused and disciplined young man. His mother expressed how proud she is of his clarity of purpose and the effort he puts into achieving his goals. In her eyes, he’s becoming not just a good student or a responsible son, but a well-rounded individual with a heart full of love and purpose.
“Your focus makes me proud,” she continued. “Watching you become such a good young man reminds me I am so blessed.”
But amid the joy of celebrating Tafari’s birthday, the post also carried a bittersweet undertone. Nazizi honoured the memory of her younger son, Jazeel Adam, who tragically passed away in 2023. She acknowledged the deep bond the two brothers shared and the void that Jazeel’s absence has left in their lives.
“Sorry your small brother isn’t here anymore. I know how much you loved him. We shall never be the same, but we love you and we are proud of you.”
Her words offered a glimpse into a mother’s heart navigating both joy and grief. Despite the pain, she remains grateful for the blessings around her, especially the extended family that has helped raise Tafari.
She paid tribute to her mother, Tafari’s grandmother, for being a nurturing figure in his life, and expressed appreciation to her father, Firoz Hirji—Tafari’s grandfather—for stepping in as a consistent and positive male influence.
“To grandpa, thanks for being the firm hand every boy needs in his life. Your bond is priceless.”
Nazizi’s message was accompanied by a touching family photo showing Tafari with his grandmother and great-grandmother—a powerful visual of generational strength, love, and support.
Through her words and images, the proud mother not only celebrated a birthday but also painted a powerful picture of resilience, love, and the sacred journey of raising a child through both joy and sorrow.
