TV host and comedian Nick Cannon has spoken candidly about his journey into fatherhood, revealing that having 12 children was more a result of “carelessness” than a deliberate plan. The entertainer, who shares twins with ex-wife Mariah Carey, opened up in a recent interview about the choices that shaped his family life.
Life After Divorce
Following his 2016 divorce from Carey, Cannon described his life as a whirlwind of freedom, wealth, and opportunity — factors that influenced his personal decisions.
“It wasn’t like I was acting out,” he said. “It was more of being careless, being frivolous with my process because I could do it, because I had the money and because I had the access to whoever and however I wanted to move.”
He clarified that fathering such a large family wasn’t intentional. Instead, he said he simply lived life, had fun, and trusted that he could manage the outcomes.
A Look at Nick Cannon’s Family
Cannon’s 12 children include:
- Moroccan and Monroe, 14, with Mariah Carey
- Golden (8), Powerful (4), and Rise (2), with Brittany Bell
- Zillion and Zion (3), and Beautiful (2), with Abby De La Rosa
- Legendary (2), with Bre Tiesi
- Onyx (2), with LaNisha Cole
- Halo (2), with Alyssa Scott — who also shared a son, Zen, with Cannon before his passing
Doing the Inner Work
Looking back, Cannon reflected that he should have taken more time to process the trauma of his divorce before moving forward.
“Now, you’re leaving trauma every step of the way instead of fixing it from its origin,” he admitted.
Despite his candid confession, he emphasized that each child was conceived out of love within meaningful relationships.
What’s Next for Cannon?
For now, Cannon says he is “pressing hold” on having more children, though he hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility in the future. His reflections highlight both the challenges and lessons of navigating love, loss, and fatherhood in the public eye.
