Political commentator Nuru Okanga has dismissed persistent rumors about the poshomill gifted to him by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, confirming that the machine is not only operational but also generating steady income. Content creator 2Mbili recently visited Okanga’s rural homestead in Kakamega to inspect the milling business and other investments funded through Sudi’s financial support.
Daily Earnings and Costs
During the visit, 2Mbili witnessed the poshomill in action as it processed maize for local residents. Okanga explained that the machine earns between KES 350 and 400 daily, with customers paying KES 10 per gorogoro of maize milled. The setup cost was approximately KES 200,000, including KES 130,000 for the machine and KES 50,000 for the housing structure built with iron sheets and timber.
Broader Rural Investments
Okanga also showcased other ventures within his homestead. These include a two-bedroom house worth nearly KES 300,000, fitted with solar power and electrical wiring in preparation for future grid connection. He has diversified further into livestock farming, rearing around 70 chickens and 15 guineafowl (“kanga”), which provide both income and security as early warning birds against intruders.
Additionally, he owns a motorcycle valued at KES 70,000, which has reduced his dependence on boda-bodas for daily transport, cutting long-term travel costs.
From Pledge to Reality
These developments trace back to August 2024, when Okanga appeared on the Obinna Show Live and secured a pledge of KES 1.3 million from MP Sudi. Okanga used the funds to establish multiple income streams, with the poshomill serving as a cornerstone of his rural enterprise.
Transforming Rural Livelihoods
Okanga’s story reflects a broader trend among Kenyan rural entrepreneurs who are blending small-scale industrial ventures with farming, property development, and transport investments. His approach demonstrates how financial support, when used strategically, can generate sustainable livelihoods and uplift communities.
By clarifying the status of his poshomill and showcasing his investments, Okanga has not only silenced critics but also positioned himself as an example of effective resource management in rural Kenya. His ventures continue to provide consistent income while strengthening his reputation as a forward-thinking commentator and entrepreneur.
