The gospel community mourned on Monday, November 10, following the passing of beloved singer Betty Bayo after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Her death has sparked widespread speculation regarding the custody of her two children, Danivictor and Sky Victor, whom she shared with her ex-husband, Pastor Victor Kanyari.
Family Dynamics and Public Speculation
After separating from Pastor Kanyari, Betty later married Hiram Gitau, also known as Tash, and lived with him. The children shared a close bond with their stepfather, raising questions about their future care. Rumors of tension emerged online, prompting public discussion over who would take custody of the children.
Pastor Kanyari Addresses the Rumors
During a recent sermon, Pastor Kanyari clarified that there is no conflict between him, Tash, or Betty’s family. “I have not sat down with Tash or the family and had a disagreement. Right now, if Betty were to resurrect and find that we are fighting over the kids, she would be stunned. I am not beefing with anyone and there is no bad blood between me and anyone. I do not want to see anyone bashing that family.” He also cautioned social media users against fueling drama, emphasizing that Betty would never have approved disputes over her children.
Clarification on Speculation Around Meetings
Public curiosity intensified after Tash was spotted meeting with a city lawyer, leading to speculation that the discussion involved custody matters. Pastor Kanyari later clarified that the meeting was about a brand ambassadorial deal for Sky Victor, not custody, easing concerns about legal disputes between the families.
Commitment to the Children’s Well-Being
Pastor Kanyari has expressed his readiness to provide for the children, revealing that he secured a KSh 90 million mansion in Runda to offer them a safe and comfortable home. He emphasized that financial provision is central to his role as a parent: “Whether they will give me the kids or not, only God knows what will happen, but I will fight for justice. Why do I toil so hard to get money? I even drive a Lexus; how would my kids go to a KSh 2,000 school? Right now, even if I were told they want to travel to America, I would pay. If I were not supporting those kids, do you think I would even attend her burial?”
Memorial Service and Tribute
A memorial service was held at CFF Church on November 16 to celebrate Betty Bayo’s life. During the service, Pastor Kanyari eulogized her as a devoted mother and shared fond memories from their time together before their separation. He promised to cherish these memories while remaining committed to the welfare of their children.
