Pastor Victor Kanyari has shared the emotional toll he has faced following the death of his ex-wife, celebrated gospel singer Betty Bayo. The Salvation Healing Ministries preacher revealed that he has been haunted by nightmares and struggling to come to terms with her sudden passing.
Grieving the Sudden Loss
Betty Bayo passed away on November 11 after a brief battle with acute myeloid leukaemia, leaving family, friends, and fans in shock. Kanyari disclosed that he only learned of her illness after her death, which made the news even more devastating.
On the day of her passing, Kanyari was visibly heartbroken at Kenyatta National Hospital, and he later broke down in tears at the Kenyatta University Funeral Home during the preparations for her final journey.
Haunted by Nightmares
During a press briefing on November 12, Kanyari spoke candidly about the emotional torment he has experienced, including recurring nightmares featuring Betty.
“It is very painful for me. Yesterday I did not sleep; I had nightmares of Betty more than three times. Every time I fell asleep, I would dream that my child was asking me where their mum was. I slept with a disturbed conscience,”
he shared.
The pastor admitted that accepting her death has been extremely challenging, describing moments when he convinces himself that she is still alive.
“I even think she has not truly died. When I see her in photos, I feel like she is still alive. Other people might forget her, but I shall never forget the mother of my kids, and my kids will never forget her,”
Kanyari expressed.
Appeal for Prayers and Support
Kanyari appealed to the public to keep him and Betty’s family in their prayers, particularly her children, husband Hiram Gitau, and her mother. His heartfelt statements resonated with many Kenyans, who flooded social media with messages of comfort and solidarity.
Betty Bayo’s sudden death has left a profound void in the gospel music community, and Kanyari’s candid reflections highlight the deep personal and emotional impact her passing has had on those closest to her.
