Rachel Otuoma, the widow of former Kenyan international footballer Ezekiel Otuoma, has publicly addressed criticism over her decision to move on with her life following her husband’s death in December 2024. Speaking candidly during a recent TikTok Live session, Rachel emphasized that she fulfilled her marital vows and deserves the freedom to live her life without judgment.
“When I said yes, I do, it was till death do us part, and God decided like that,” she declared. “So, you mean I shouldn’t live my life because you guys are talking?” Her message was a pointed response to critics questioning her decision to date again, just months after her husband’s passing.
Ezekiel Otuoma died after a lengthy battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), also known as ALS. His illness drew national attention, and Rachel was widely praised for her unwavering commitment and care throughout the difficult period. Many admired her openness in sharing their journey and advocating for his treatment. At his funeral, she was celebrated for standing by him through the most challenging years of his life.
But with time, Rachel has chosen to embrace a new chapter, one that includes the possibility of love and companionship. To those questioning her motives, she responded in Kiswahili: “Stop judging, I played my part, nilikuwa kwa ndoa yangu mpaka ikapita. Hio ni mapito, so sifai kumove on juu bwanangu alikufa? Vitu zingine tukuwe real.” (“I played my part, I was in my marriage until it passed. That is just life, so am I not supposed to move on because my husband died? Let’s be real.”)

Rachel urged the public to stop meddling in her personal decisions and show empathy instead of casting judgment. “Imagine you guys will talk and abuse, but imagine I have to date,” she said.
Her remarks serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of personal agency in grief and healing. As she navigates her future, Rachel Otuoma stands firm in her truth one of love, loss, and resilience.
