Kenyan actor Sammy Okore, once fondly known as young Tosh in the beloved children’s show Machachari, is back in the spotlight with a compelling new role in Reckless, Showmax’s latest youth drama series. At 25, Okore takes on the character of Mika, a thrill-seeking teenager whose love for partying and street racing spirals into tragedy, affecting both him and his brother.
Okore’s path in acting began early, guided by industry veterans. He credits his early development to actor Arabron Osanya, known for his role in Faithless. “Arabron was my best friend’s father and a huge mentor. He shaped my passion and approach to acting,” Okore shared.
The production of Reckless brought unique challenges, especially during adrenaline-fueled street racing scenes filmed at night along Nairobi’s Southern Bypass. Okore worked closely with stunt drivers to bring authenticity to the sequences. “That was one of the biggest highlights of my career. The adrenaline was real,” he said.
Portraying the high-octane character Mika was a major physical shift for Okore, who describes himself as laid-back. “Mika is always in action fighting, driving, moving. I had to seriously level up my fitness and energy,” he admitted.
Director Gilbert Lukalia played a pivotal role in Okore’s performance, helping him delve deep into the emotional layers of his character. “Gilbert didn’t just direct; he guided me emotionally. He helped me connect with feelings I didn’t know how to express.

Beyond the screen, Okore is making waves in the local trap music scene, both writing and producing. His music is featured in Reckless, and he credits songs like the Amapiano hit Mnike with helping him embody Mika’s energy. “It sounds like someone is saying ‘Mika’ it became my set anthem,” he said.
On the personal front, Okore describes himself as a “ladies’ man” but not keen on serious dating, saying he’s currently in a “situationship.”
With music projects in the works and an expanding fan base, Sammy Okore is on a rising trajectory, proving that his talents go far beyond his childhood fame.
