Kenyan singer and actress Sanaipei Tande has opened up about a startling proposal she received in her early 20s from renowned radio host Maina Kageni. In a recent interview, the celebrated media personality revealed that shortly after joining Kiss 100 FM at the age of 21, Maina offered her lifelong financial security in exchange for bearing his child.
According to Sanaipei, she had just begun her career and had not yet been given her own radio show when Maina approached her with the offer. “If you never want to work another day in your life, give me a child,” he reportedly told her. The offer included a monthly allowance of KSh 500,000, a house in Nairobi’s upscale Lavington area, and full financial support for the foreseeable future.
Despite the enticing deal, Sanaipei turned it down, citing her commitment to building an independent and meaningful career. She described herself at the time as “just a baby” and noted the power imbalance in the situation, emphasizing that she wanted to achieve success on her own terms

Maina later confirmed the offer publicly, portraying it as a practical arrangement rather than a romantic one. He claimed that he simply wanted a child without the responsibilities of a relationship. Sanaipei further revealed that Maina’s mother had even pledged to gift a house to the mother of the child, highlighting the transactional nature of the proposal.
The story has stirred mixed reactions on social media, with some fans praising Maina’s persistence while others criticized Sanaipei for turning down what they perceived as a golden opportunity. However, Sanaipei has stood her ground, stating firmly that “money does not control me.”
She urged young women, especially those in the media industry, to prioritize their careers and avoid early entanglements that could derail their ambitions. For Sanaipei, independence and self-worth outweigh any promise of comfort or luxury. Her story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of personal agency and the courage to choose integrity over convenience.
