The late Gengetone artist Shalkido, known for his role in Sailors Gang, continues to be remembered fondly as preparations for his burial move forward. This week, comedian 2Mbili led a team to clear out Shalkido’s rented residence, marking a touching act of closure less than a month after comedian Obinna had generously paid six months’ rent for him.
Returning Belongings to the Family
The team arrived at the rental home to collect Shalkido’s belongings, which were later transported to his family’s residence ahead of his burial. Among the items moved were a bed, mattress, a small table, and a couch — simple possessions reflecting his modest lifestyle. The move was handled carefully, ensuring that all items were delivered safely as part of the funeral preparations.
Landlord Shows Compassion
In a surprising and compassionate gesture, the landlord of the residence agreed to refund a significant portion of the rent that had been paid in advance. Discussions led by Omosh, a close associate of 2Mbili, helped secure the refund. The landlord explained that since Shalkido had only occupied the house for a short time before his passing, it was only fair to return most of the funds.
“The landlord understood the situation,” 2Mbili shared during the handover. “They deducted just two months to cover the short stay, and the rest was refunded. It was an act of kindness we truly appreciate.”
Emotional Closure for Family and Friends
Initially, the team had planned to move Shalkido’s belongings to his grandmother’s home in Matangi, Kimbo (Ruiru), where the burial is expected to take place. However, reports later confirmed that the items were delivered to his father’s home after consultations with family members.
Mori, Shalkido’s cousin who had been living with him at the time, accompanied the team during the move. He confirmed that he had not returned to the house since the tragic events surrounding Shalkido’s death. The clearing process, he said, brought emotional closure to a painful chapter.
Final Farewell Preparations
Preparations for the final farewell are well underway. A requiem mass has been scheduled at All Saints Cathedral, followed by the burial in Ruiru.
Shalkido’s death shocked fans and the entertainment industry, cutting short a promising young career. Yet, through the efforts of friends like 2Mbili and Obinna, and the goodwill of those who supported his family, his memory continues to be honored with dignity and compassion.
