The family of the late Gengetone musician Shalkido has made a public appeal to Kenyans to assist in settling his hospital bills after his sudden death in a hit-and-run accident. The young artist, who had been making a comeback in the music scene, passed away on October 6, 2025, a day after sustaining serious injuries.
Outstanding Hospital Expenses
Shalkido’s father, Stephen Mungai, revealed that his son’s brief stay at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital had accrued a bill of KSh 147,000. He urged well-wishers to contribute, providing a contact number for donations: 0116202762. “The amount of money that is required currently is KSh 147,000. Kenyans, you can help me via this number,” he said, expressing his grief.
Details of the Tragic Accident
The fatal incident occurred along Thika Road near Githurai, where first responders rushed Shalkido to the hospital. Media personality Oga Obinna, who had worked closely with the singer, confirmed that Shalkido suffered a broken left leg, internal brain swelling, and bleeding. Shortly before his death, he was declared brain dead, marking the irreversible end of his life.
Call for Community Support
Obinna urged the public to assist the family during this difficult period, noting that additional expenses related to funeral arrangements would also need coverage. He clarified that a family member would be appointed to manage any funds, ensuring transparency and proper allocation.
The appeal has drawn significant attention on social media, with users expressing condolences and pledging financial support. Comments included messages such as, “We will support the family during these grieving moments, may the Lord strengthen them,” and, “May God bless the pockets that bless others.”
Remembering Shalkido
In a heartfelt interview, Shalkido’s father shared personal details about his son, revealing that Shalkido was his only child. He recounted the challenges of raising him alone after Shalkido’s mother abandoned him at just two months old, highlighting the support of Shalkido’s grandmother in his upbringing. Mungai emphasized the love and sacrifice that shaped the young artist’s life.

As the family mourns, their appeal underscores the hardships that can follow sudden tragedies and highlights the importance of community support. Shalkido’s untimely passing has left a void in the Kenyan music scene, and the family continues to navigate the pain while seeking assistance to cover his medical expenses.
