Musician Shiru Wa GP has shared an emotional account of her best friend Betty Bayo’s final moments, revealing the singer’s last wishes and the struggles she faced in her final hours.
Shiru recounted the events during preparations for Betty’s burial, describing how the gospel singer, who had battled leukaemia, had made it clear that she did not want her vulnerable moments shared on social media. “Please, do not allow me to be posted online. I want to be respected until my last moment,” Betty had told her close friend. Shiru said she even confronted someone who tried to take pictures of Betty in the hospital, honoring her friend’s request for privacy.
Struggles in Her Final Hours
When Betty was rushed to the hospital, Shiru immediately noticed her condition had deteriorated significantly. She recalled paying KSh 260,000 to admit her friend and realizing that Betty’s health was far worse than the previous night. “She was repeating, ‘I want blood A positive.’ I could see she was so sickly, not the same Betty I had seen before,” Shiru said. She quickly contacted their close friends and family to support her during the emergency.
Shiru also revealed that Betty had suffered a stroke caused by a blood clot in her brain. Doctors explained that internal bleeding had occurred, and she was later diagnosed with acute mild leukaemia, which had remained hidden in her body. “We asked for her to be moved to the ICU, but we could not accompany her. We cried so much,” Shiru recalled.
Long-Term Health Struggles
In addition to these medical complications, Shiru reflected on how Betty had been experiencing extreme fatigue for nearly three years. It was only later revealed that the underlying cause was her illness, which had slowly weakened her over time.
Honoring a Friend’s Legacy
Despite the pain and uncertainty, Shiru Wa GP made a heartfelt promise to care for Betty’s daughter, knowing that her late friend would have done the same for her own children. The musician emphasized her commitment to honoring Betty’s legacy and ensuring that her family, especially her daughter, would be supported during this difficult time.
Shiru’s recollection provides a moving insight into the final days of Betty Bayo, highlighting not only the physical toll of her illness but also the dignity and care with which she wished to be treated. The account underscores the depth of friendship between the two musicians and the lasting impact Betty had on those closest to her.
