Kenyan musician Stivo Simple Boy has announced his decision to run for a Member of County Assembly (MCA) position in Kibra constituency during the 2027 General Election. This marks a significant shift in his career, as he seeks to use his platform to address critical issues facing the youth in his community.
In a recent interview, the popular rapper shared that his decision to enter politics is driven by the pressing problems of youth unemployment and mismanagement of bursaries, both of which have hindered the potential of many young people in Kibra. While the constituency is divided into five wards—Sarang’ombe, Laini Saba, Makina, Lindi, and Woodley/Kenyatta Golf Course—Stivo did not specify which ward he intends to contest.
Stivo expressed his commitment to improving the lives of the youth in Kibra, stating that if elected, his focus will be on creating job opportunities and ensuring equitable access to educational bursaries for the local youth. He emphasized the challenges young people face in the area, particularly the lack of job opportunities and support for education, which he believes are contributing to the ongoing cycle of poverty.
“I’m a future leader in 2027. I’ll start with the lowest elective seat — MCA — and rise with time. Many young people in Kibra are jobless. They don’t get bursaries. When elected, we will offer jobs and issue bursaries. We will work for the people,” he said.
The musician also took the opportunity to criticize some of the current leaders in the area, accusing them of neglecting their duties and using public office for personal gain rather than serving the needs of the people. According to Stivo, this mismanagement has left many residents feeling disillusioned with their elected representatives. “Some elected leaders are not serving the people. They are just eating and increasing the size of their bellies,” he remarked, highlighting the frustration many voters feel about the state of leadership in Kibra.
In addition to his criticism of local politicians, Stivo singled out Mumias East MP Peter Salasya as a leader he admires for his dedication to grassroots leadership. He commended Salasya for his strong connection to the community and his ability to address the needs of the people he represents. “People say politics is a dirty game, but that’s not true if you have a worthy leader. For example, Peter Salasya is a good leader,” Stivo noted.
Stivo’s decision to venture into politics is a bold one, considering his rise to fame as a musician and his influence among the youth. His move signals a desire to take on a new role where he can actively contribute to the betterment of his community and bring about meaningful change. With his reputation and popularity, Stivo hopes to leverage his platform to address the concerns of the youth in Kibra and improve their lives through practical solutions.
As the election year approaches, Stivo Simple Boy’s political aspirations will likely stir considerable interest, particularly among the young people of Kibra, who are looking for leaders they believe will truly serve their interests and work to address their most pressing challenges.
