The Kenyan music industry continues to mourn the sudden death of Shalkido, formerly of the popular Sailors Gang, who tragically passed away following a motorbike accident. Prior to his passing, Shalkido faced financial challenges, prompting support from fans and fellow celebrities.
Pledge of Support and Delay
Content creator Terence Creative had pledged KSh 20,000 to Shalkido, but the money was never delivered, leading to public curiosity. In a candid phone interview, Terence explained that the delay was intentional, emphasizing that his goal was mentorship rather than just financial assistance.
“Sikuweza kufanikisha maana singeweza kutuma hela hivo; mimi nilitaka tukutane,” he stated, highlighting the importance of face-to-face guidance to address personal challenges effectively. Scheduling a meeting proved difficult as he had recently returned from China and was organizing his travel commitments, including a short vacation in Dubai.
Misunderstandings and Reconciliation
Shalkido had previously perceived Terence’s advice to fellow artists on 26 August as a personal critique. During an appearance on the Obinna Show Live, Shalkido responded with sharp remarks. Terence clarified that his guidance—encouraging artists to save, get insurance, and explore side hustles—was general and not directed at Shalkido individually.
Fortunately, the two reconciled before Shalkido’s passing. Shalkido sent an apology via Instagram DM, which Terence accepted, describing their renewed bond as brotherly. “Tuliweza kusamehana tu kama mandugu…,” he reflected, expressing relief that they had resolved their differences.
Support Beyond Money
Terence noted that his focus had been on providing mentorship and advice rather than extensive financial support. He cautioned against using Shalkido’s death for personal glorification, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of life. “Mungu ndio huamua mipango…,” he remarked.
Terence also offered heartfelt condolences to Shalkido’s family, friends, and fans, acknowledging the musician’s positive steps toward his music career before the tragedy struck.
