About Wanavokali
Formed in 2019, Wanavokali—whose name means “Those with the Vocals” in Swahili—is made up of six dynamic performers: Chep, Lena, Mellah, Riki, Sam, and Ythera. The group first met in 2018 as background vocalists during the Safaricom Twaweza Live Tour before coming together officially to create original music.
Their debut single Unioshe with Collo G earned widespread acclaim, winning the Verse 5 Award for Collaboration of the Year in 2020. That same year, Wanavokali rose to continental prominence after winning Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices, a Pan-African singing competition in Johannesburg, beating groups from Ghana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Kenya.
Looking Ahead
With Vibes & Vokals, Wanavokali is positioning itself as a cultural force in African music, marrying vocal mastery, fashion, and storytelling in a way that reflects modern Kenya while appealing to global audiences. Their live album launch promises to be more than just a concert—it’s a celebration of artistry, identity, and community.
