Ugandan singer Weasel Manizo, a celebrated member of the Goodlyfe Crew, is recovering from injuries sustained in an alleged domestic altercation involving his wife, Sandra Teta. The incident, which occurred at a Kampala parking lot, has drawn widespread concern from fans across East Africa.
According to Ugandan police, Teta was taken into custody for allegedly intentionally knocking down the singer with a car following an argument. The altercation reportedly began at a bar in the city before spilling over to the parking area, where the incident unfolded. Authorities have impounded the vehicle involved, which remains at the police station as investigations continue.
Weasel, whose real name is Douglas Mayanja, addressed the public in a heartfelt statement expressing gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of love, prayers, and support.
“We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love and well-wishes,” he said. “Despite the challenges, my family and I are doing well, and I am on the road to surgery and full recovery.”
He went on to assure fans that he remains positive and determined to make a strong comeback, adding, “We are looking forward to bouncing back stronger and better and can’t wait to reconnect with each and every one of you soon.”
The singer’s management confirmed that the surgery is part of his treatment plan following the injuries he sustained. They have asked for privacy as he continues his recovery.
Weasel’s career, which spans over a decade, includes numerous chart-topping hits and collaborations, making him one of Uganda’s most recognisable music figures. News of his accident has prompted an outpouring of support from fellow musicians, industry stakeholders, and fans, with social media flooded with messages wishing him a quick recovery.
Meanwhile, police say they are pursuing the case against Teta and will release more details once investigations are complete. The incident has sparked conversations about domestic disputes and the impact such situations can have on public figures.
For now, Weasel remains focused on healing, with hopes of returning to the stage once fully recovered. “Your thoughts, prayers, and messages have meant the world to us,” he concluded, “and we are grateful for your love and care.”
