Tanzanian singer Zuchu has publicly expressed frustration over delayed payment for her performance at the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) closing ceremony, held on August 30, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Nairobi. The celebrated Bongo artist shared leaked chats with the event’s organisers, demanding the balance owed for her services.
Performance Delivered, Payment Pending
Zuchu, known for hits like Sukari, was among the headlining performers alongside Savara from Sauti Sol and Ugandan star Eddy Kenzo. Despite delivering a high-energy performance, Zuchu claims she has yet to receive the full payment agreed upon with LEAP Creative Agency, the organisation responsible for her booking.
In a detailed social media post, she stated: “I am writing to express my concern and frustration regarding the outstanding payment for my recent performance in Nairobi. As per our agreement, the full balance was due upon completion of the event. Yet, despite my team’s continuous patience and understanding, I have yet to receive the payment.”
Attempts to Resolve the Issue
Zuchu revealed that her management team had been in constant contact with the agency, including CEO Roshan Soomarshun, but efforts to secure payment yielded no results. Alleged proof of payment provided by the agency reportedly turned out to be unverifiable, prompting further disappointment. The singer emphasised: “I have upheld my end of the agreement by delivering a performance I dedicated myself fully to. It is highly disappointing that the same professionalism has not been extended in return when it comes to fulfilling your financial obligations.”
Impact on Other Commitments
The delayed payment forced Zuchu to cancel previously scheduled shows to accommodate the CHAN performance. She warned that if the matter is not resolved promptly, she may pursue legal action to recover the owed funds.
Addressing Rumours
Responding to circulating rumours, Zuchu denied claims that she would no longer perform in Kenya or collaborate with Kenyan artists, reiterating her appreciation for her Kenyan fans and respect for the country’s music industry.
Artists Advocate for Professional Respect
The incident highlights ongoing challenges artists face regarding contractual payments and professionalism. By speaking out, Zuchu is advocating for fair treatment and accountability within the entertainment industry, underscoring the importance of honoring agreements and respecting artists’ time and talent.
