Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has urged content creators to use their platforms to promote government projects. Chesang, who is also the Senate ICT Committee Chair, made the remarks during the launch of Konza Technopolis on Thursday, September 11.
The senator said content creators, especially those with large followings, can play a key role in telling Kenya’s digital story.
“Let us use content creators to talk about government projects, policies, and Konza to Kenyans, especially the youth. By giving them these tasks, we empower them and also spread to the world what the government is doing,” Chesang said.
He added that the move would not only expand the country’s digital footprint but also create jobs in the creative sector.
Konza as a Digital Hub
Konza Technopolis is a Vision 2030 flagship project under the Ministry of ICT. It is located 60 kilometers from Nairobi.
The 5,000-acre smart city will host:
- Technology-driven enterprises
- Affordable housing
- Green energy projects
- Conferencing facilities
ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo said Konza will be a driver of growth in tourism, investment, and industrialisation.
“We are working with strong Public-Private Partnerships to ensure Konza becomes Africa’s largest Smart City and a global hub for innovation,” Kabogo stated.
Drone Corridor Opens
In July, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) approved the Konza National Drone Corridor. This is Kenya’s first controlled airspace for drone operations.
The corridor will allow:
- Long-range drone flights
- Training and testing of drone technologies
- Safe and regulated operations
A Corridor Operations Coordinator will oversee the facility to ensure compliance with safety standards.
