Anne Nderitu, the nominee for a position in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has declared a net worth of Sh138 million, comprised of investments in real estate, vehicles, shares, and dairy farming.
Nderitu, who is currently serving as the Registrar of Political Parties, revealed her wealth portfolio while appearing before the National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) on Saturday for her vetting. The session, chaired by George Murugara, sought to assess her suitability for the IEBC role, including her financial standing, which is seen as a key indicator of integrity and transparency.
“My wealth is largely drawn from my salary and allowances in public service. I also earn dividends from saccos and shares. Additionally, I run a small logistics business and engage in dairy farming,” she told the committee.
Her financial disclosure comes at a time when public trust in electoral institutions remains fragile. Murugara emphasized that transparency in matters of wealth is essential for individuals seeking to serve in the IEBC due to the nature of its responsibilities and the potential for misuse of office.
“You know, IEBC is a sensitive office that you are going into, if your nomination is approved by the House. Many people believe there are lucrative contracts at the IEBC which can enrich you to the disadvantage of Kenyans and the job you are supposed to do,” Murugara said.
The committee’s vetting process is part of broader reforms aimed at restoring public confidence in the IEBC ahead of future electoral cycles. Nderitu’s nomination has sparked public interest due to her current role in overseeing political parties in Kenya, a position that has seen her at the center of key political developments in recent years.
If approved, Nderitu will join the IEBC at a critical time as the commission prepares for major electoral reforms and future elections. Her background, wealth declaration, and public service record are expected to weigh heavily in Parliament’s decision on her nomination.
