Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua has issued a crucial update to jobseekers selected under the government’s labour export programme, commonly referred to as Kazi Majuu. In a public notice posted on Wednesday, Mutua directed successful candidates from Malindi, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Ukunda to report for final documentation on Friday, June 21, from 9am.
Applicants from Malindi and Kilifi are required to report to their respective district officers’ offices, while those from Mombasa will assemble at Mama Ngina Drive. Recruits from Ukunda/Diani should present themselves at the Ukunda Showground.
The Cabinet Secretary emphasized the importance of arriving with all required documents, including valid offer letters, passports, and Sh300 for a lawyer’s notarisation fee. He further revealed that Youth Fund application forms will be issued at the venues. Recruits must either present existing bank account details or be prepared to open an account on-site to enable fund disbursement.
“Failure to fill the Youth Fund application form will mean you will not qualify for funding,” warned Mutua, urging all recruits to complete the process promptly and entirely on-site.
The Youth Fund is intended to financially cushion the recruits as they prepare to embark on overseas job opportunities, primarily in Gulf nations such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, where agreements have already been secured. The programme also includes placements in countries like Germany, targeting employment in the hospitality, construction, and domestic work sectors.
Mutua reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a transparent and accountable recruitment process. He encouraged all successful candidates to follow instructions to avoid any delays that might jeopardize their placements.
The announcement marks the final stage in the deployment process for hundreds of young Kenyans who are part of President William Ruto’s flagship labour mobility initiative. With labour attachés already deployed abroad, the initiative promises not only to reduce local unemployment but also to ensure the welfare and rights of Kenyan workers overseas are protected.
