Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary (CS) Geoffrey Ruku led a government-backed goat auction at Ishiara Market in Mbeere North, aiming to boost the local economy and support small-scale traders and livestock farmers.
The CS described the auction as part of Kenya Kwanza’s bottom-up economic transformation agenda, which seeks to empower grassroots entrepreneurs by promoting local trade and ensuring wealth circulates within rural communities.
“This is not a one-off event. It is part of a broader strategy to revitalize rural markets and create sustainable income opportunities for ordinary citizens,” Ruku told the cheering crowd. He added that President William Ruto’s administration is committed to equitable distribution of national resources.
Ruku announced that similar auctions and empowerment programs will soon be rolled out across other markets in Embu County, with special focus on farmers, women, and youth. He encouraged the community to remain supportive of the government and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, Leonard Muthende, in the upcoming Mbeere North by-election.
“The people of Mbeere North must stay in government to continue enjoying development and empowerment programs. Empty slogans cannot deliver,” Ruku said, urging residents to prioritize unity and economic growth over divisive politics.
The event drew nine Principal Secretaries, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Members of Parliament, and several Members of County Assembly (MCAs). Governor Mbarire praised the initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to empowering small traders and livestock farmers.
Many local traders expressed gratitude, noting that the auction provided them with a rare opportunity to sell their livestock at favorable prices, boosting their livelihoods and contributing to the growth of the rural economy.
The CS reiterated that these initiatives align with the government’s promise to empower grassroots communities and create sustainable economic opportunities across the country.
