Residents of Ashabito Sub-County in Mandera County are set to experience improved access to government services following the official launch of the Huduma Smart Serikalini initiative, Mandera Edition. The transformative programme, unveiled by the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes, Moses Kuria Ruku, aims to decentralise public services and enhance efficiency in delivery.
Speaking during the launch event, CS Ruku emphasized the government’s commitment to bringing services closer to the people, especially in historically underserved regions. “This is just the beginning,” said the CS. “Our goal is to ensure no Kenyan is left behind. The Huduma Smart Serikalini initiative is our transformative vehicle to improve accessibility, efficiency, and accountability in service delivery that will have a timeless impact on residents across the country.”
The launch coincided with the official opening of the Ashabito Sub-County Headquarters and the Deputy County Commissioner’s offices. The facilities, constructed through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) under the leadership of Mandera North MP Abdullahi Bashir Sheikh, mark a significant milestone for the region. These offices will now host all National Government departments, eliminating the need for residents to travel long distances to access essential public services.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of deepening devolution by ensuring that citizens in remote areas can benefit from streamlined and responsive service delivery. It reflects a strategic shift towards a citizen-centric approach that fosters inclusivity and national development.
As part of the day’s activities, CS Ruku also supervised the distribution of 700 bags of relief food to the local community. The emergency support was provided by the State Department for Special Programmes as a timely intervention to assist families facing food insecurity in the region.
The Huduma Smart Serikalini initiative is expected to transform public administration in Mandera and beyond, bridging the gap between government institutions and citizens while reinforcing trust in public service systems.
