Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment to empowering grassroots traders, including mama mboga, boda boda operators, and other small-scale businesses, through targeted financial, legislative, and policy interventions.
Speaking during the Boda Boda and Mama Mboga Empowerment Forum held in Mawingu, Kipipiri Constituency, Nyandarua County, Prof. Kindiki emphasized that the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) remains a key focus of the Kenya Kwanza administration. He assured local traders that the government is dedicated to uplifting their livelihoods by facilitating access to essential resources that can expand their businesses and increase profitability.
“We will continue to empower mama mboga, boda boda and small-scale traders and other critical grassroots groups because it is essential to boost their efforts in order to uplift their livelihoods,” he said. He dismissed criticism aimed at the empowerment programs, affirming that these groups deserve support and attention due to their vital role in the economy.
Prof. Kindiki added that the government’s economic reforms over the past two years have stabilized the national economy, creating room for the administration to now focus on implementing development programs that directly benefit the citizens.
“In the last two years, we have stabilized the economy, and now it’s time to work. We are working every day to uplift the lives of the people,” he said.
In Kipipiri, the Deputy President highlighted ongoing government projects aimed at improving infrastructure and business environments. A modern market is under construction in Mawingu and Wanjohi towns to provide clean, organized spaces for traders. Additionally, previously stalled road projects like the Geta–Ndunyu Njeru road have been revived and are scheduled for completion before the next general elections.
Kindiki also addressed the long-standing land ownership issues in the region, pledging to resolve the pending issuance of title deeds for residents of colonial villages in Nyandarua County.
“We will find a solution to the pending title deeds issue as requested by residents. It is a matter we must solve,” he concluded.
The forum underscored the government’s renewed drive to ensure inclusive economic growth by focusing on grassroots development and local empowerment.
