The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a slight reduction in fuel prices in its latest monthly review. The new prices will take effect from midnight on September 15, 2025, and remain in place for 30 days.
Nairobi Fuel Prices
In Nairobi, the new pump prices are:
- Super Petrol: Sh184.52 per litre
- Diesel: Sh171.47 per litre
- Kerosene: Sh154.78 per litre
These prices include the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT), in line with the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and revised excise duty rates adjusted for inflation.
Prices in Other Cities
Other major cities have also seen slight reductions:
- Mombasa: Super Petrol Sh181.21, Diesel Sh168.19, Kerosene Sh151.49
- Nakuru: Super Petrol Sh183.56, Diesel Sh170.87, Kerosene Sh154.21
- Eldoret: Super Petrol Sh184.38, Diesel Sh171.68, Kerosene Sh155.03
- Kisumu: Super Petrol Sh184.37, Diesel Sh171.68, Kerosene Sh155.03
Comparison with Previous Reviews
In August, EPRA reduced Super Petrol and Kerosene by Sh1 per litre, while Diesel prices remained the same.
In contrast, the July review recorded sharp increases: Super Petrol rose by Sh8.99, Diesel by Sh8.67, and Kerosene by Sh9.65. These increases were influenced by rising freight costs following attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil and gas shipping route.
What This Means for Consumers
The latest reduction provides modest relief for motorists and households using Kerosene. EPRA’s monthly fuel price reviews aim to balance consumer affordability and industry sustainability amid fluctuating global oil prices.
