Five companies, including several auctioneers and a vehicle repair garage, have issued a joint public notice announcing the impending auction of uncollected vehicles and assorted goods. According to a gazette notice dated August 1, the items will be sold within 30 days if the rightful owners do not come forward to claim them.
The companies are acting under the Disposal of Uncollected Goods Act (Cap. 38), which allows entities to dispose of items that have remained unclaimed for an extended period. Among the vehicles listed for auction are a Nissan Note, a Ford Raptor, and a Nissan Navara cars that were left at an auto garage after undergoing repairs but have since been abandoned.
The garage has warned that vehicles will only be released if owners clear their outstanding balances, including repair and storage fees. “Failure to collect the said goods within the given notice shall lead to the said goods being disposed of or sold to recover repair and storage costs,” the notice stated. “This is a final reminder, and no further claims shall be entertained for recovery of goods.”
In a separate notice, another auctioneer detailed plans to auction off several luxury vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz, currently stored at Jogoo Road Garage. Similarly, dozens of impounded motorcycles and scooters are also scheduled for auction. These are being held at Lungalunga Police Station and must be claimed within 14 days from July 22.
All owners are required to settle associated costs including repair bills, accrued storage charges, interest, publication expenses, and other incidental fees before reclaiming their goods.
Uncollected vehicles have become an increasingly common sight in Kenya’s police stations and garages. Many are abandoned due to the high costs of repair, impoundment fees, or insurance premiums. In some cases, owners simply find it more economical to forgo reclaiming their vehicle in favor of purchasing a replacement.
With the auction deadline fast approaching, owners are being urged to act quickly before their property is permanently lost.
