The FKF Premier League has landed a massive financial lifeline after signing a landmark ten-year sponsorship deal worth Ksh 1.12 billion with a leading gaming firm. Announced on Thursday, the partnership grants the firm exclusive naming rights to the league, marking its much-anticipated return to Kenyan football after its previous sponsorship tenure from 2015 to 2019.
The deal, which will see the 2025/2026 season supported with Ksh 85 million, is seen as a turning point for the top-tier league, which has been without a sponsor since August 2021. At that time, another betting firm abruptly pulled out of all sports sponsorships in Kenya, plunging the league into financial uncertainty.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed hailed the deal as a transformative moment for the sport, particularly after years of minimal private sector involvement. “A transformative chapter begins for Kenyan football. After enduring challenges in attracting sponsorship, this renewed support signals hope and progress,” said Mohammed.
Under the terms of the agreement, 60% of the funds will be channeled directly to FKF Premier League clubs as grants, while the remaining 40% will be used to improve the league’s administration and operations. This structure is expected to provide much-needed financial stability to clubs, many of which have struggled with player welfare and logistical support in recent seasons.
The gaming firm’s CEO expressed optimism about the future of Kenyan football, stating, “We are excited to rekindle this partnership. Football in Kenya has so much potential. With consistent effort, we believe the golden days can return.”
The absence of sponsorship in recent years has seen even league champions go unrewarded, underscoring the critical role of financial backing in sustaining competitiveness and professionalism. The new deal promises not just financial relief but also a strategic pathway toward elevating the league’s quality on and off the pitch.
With long-term investment now secured, stakeholders hope this partnership will help revive the FKF Premier League, rekindle fan enthusiasm, and re-establish Kenya as a formidable footballing nation in the region.
