Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. has firmly clarified its independence from Del Monte Foods Inc., emphasizing that the two entities are entirely separate and unaffiliated in light of recent developments surrounding Del Monte Foods’ bankruptcy proceedings.
In a public statement, Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. stressed that there is no shared ownership, governance, or operational structure between the two companies. This clarification comes as Del Monte Foods Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of Del Monte Pacific Limited headquartered in Singapore, filed for bankruptcy on Thursday and announced it would be selling off its assets as part of a broader financial restructuring.
“Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. is not affiliated with certain other Del Monte companies around the world, including Del Monte Foods, Inc., Del Monte Canada, or Del Monte Asia Pte. Ltd.,” the company stated. It reiterated that it remains financially strong, strategically focused, and operationally stable.
While both companies use the Del Monte® brand under legacy licensing agreements, they cater to different markets and operate under distinct ownership structures. Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc. owns the rights to the Del Monte® brand for prepared foods in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, whereas Del Monte Foods Inc. retains those rights in the United States but does not own any rights to fresh or fresh-cut produce.
Headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida, Fresh Del Monte operates in over 90 countries and continues to be a global leader in fresh produce, especially in pineapple innovation. The company plans to report its Q2 2025 financial results during an earnings call scheduled for July 30, 2025.
Del Monte Foods Inc., once a prominent name in the U.S. canned fruit industry since its founding in California in 1886, now faces significant restructuring. CEO Greg Longstreet described the bankruptcy filing as a “strategic step forward” and a means to accelerate the company’s turnaround through a court-supervised sale.
