Kenya Power has announced planned power outages on Friday, September 5, 2025, affecting parts of four counties due to routine network maintenance. The utility company issued an advisory on Thursday, September 4, 2025, urging residents and businesses to make necessary preparations.
In Nairobi, the blackout will impact the Runda area from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Key affected locations include Glee Hotel, Eliud Mathu, Runda Glove, Runda Drive, Runda Mumwe, Runda Riviera, and Runda Kigwaru. Surrounding streets, such as Mimosa Annex, Mimosa Close, Mimosa Vale, Mimosa Gardens, and Mimosa Ridge, will also experience outages. In addition, sections along the Northern Bypass, Githogoro, and areas near Panafrican Insurance and Mae Ridge will be affected. Residents and businesses are advised to secure alternative power sources or plan their activities around the outage schedule.
Western Kenya will also experience disruptions, particularly in Kakamega County. Areas including Malava Market, Kimangeti, West Kenya Sugar, Bulovi, and Kambi Mwanza will be without electricity from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., impacting households and commercial activities in these regions.
The Mt. Kenya region is not spared, with Nyeri County residents in Ruring’u, Skuta, and Thunguma facing power outages from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The blackout will affect homes, businesses, and key institutions, including Swahili Village, Meeting Point, Ibauini, St. Jude, Kagayu Market, Beatrice Court, Mary Immaculate, Jacaranda, Sport Gate, Galands Hospital, Waka Maternity, Soko Huru, Beavers, Oil Company, Central Mart Supermarket, Thuta, Chorong’i, Kiamunyi, and parts of Micha Village and Ithenguri, as well as Enea Academy.
In Kirinyaga County, Mwea Town and its environs will also experience power disruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Affected sites include Ngurubani Secondary and Primary Schools, CCS Wanguru Dispensary, Githogondo Village, Thiba Primary and Secondary Schools, Thiba Village, Nice Digital City, and several banks including Co-op, Sidian, Equity, and Family. Local businesses such as Golden, Tai, Victory, Top Grade, Best, Global, Shiloh, and Budget Rice Mills will also be impacted.
Kenya Power has advised affected residents to take necessary precautions, including securing electronic devices, arranging alternative power solutions, and planning essential activities around the scheduled outages. The company reassures the public that the maintenance is essential for improving service reliability across the affected regions.
