he government will soon release the names of rogue workers after completing a thorough payroll audit, Cabinet Secretary (CS) Geoffrey Ruku has announced.
Speaking on TV47 on Tuesday night, CS Ruku warned that stern action would be taken against employees who fail to serve Kenyans effectively.
“Tomorrow we will know them because you cannot be given an opportunity by the government and fail to serve Kenyans,” he said.
Payroll Audit Reveals Irregularities
The audit uncovered serious issues in the payroll system. Some workers were found to be receiving double or triple salaries. Others were flagged for poor attendance. CS Ruku said late arrivals, leaving early, or coming in too early could classify a worker as a “ghost worker.”
“A ghost worker is anyone who arrives late at work, comes and leaves after 20 minutes, or arrives too early,” he explained.
Agencies Praised for Compliance
CS Ruku commended the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Immigration Department for their consistent performance and adherence to regulations.
He noted that other government offices must follow their example to ensure efficient service delivery.
Warning Against Bribery
The CS also warned the public against offering bribes for employment. He emphasized that anyone caught engaging in such practices would face strict consequences.
Digital Platform to Track Performance
To improve accountability, the government is developing a digital system to monitor public servants’ attendance and output. The platform will provide real-time tracking, ensuring transparency and better service delivery.
“We are in the process of coming up with a digital platform to ensure that public service output is monitored closely,” CS Ruku said.
The release of rogue workers’ names is expected imminently. The move is part of broader efforts to strengthen accountability and efficiency in Kenya’s public service.
