The government has disbursed Ksh1.78 billion for the Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Programme targeting orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).
Principal Secretary for the State Department for Children Services, Carren Ageng’o, announced the release on Monday, September 8, 2025.
Beneficiaries and Payments
- 445,940 households will benefit.
- Each will receive Ksh4,000, covering June and July 2025.
- Payments started today through contracted service providers.
Ageng’o explained that the delay in releasing the money was due to the creation of the new State Department for Children Services, formed under Executive Order No. 1 of 2025.
Why the Programme Matters
The PS noted that the CT-OVC programme plays a key role in protecting children from poor backgrounds. It helps families:
- Keep children in school.
- Improve access to healthcare and nutrition.
- Strengthen household food security.
- Enhance child protection within communities.
Previous Payments
This announcement comes a month after another disbursement. On August 7, 2025, Social Services and Senior Citizen Affairs PS Joseph Motari confirmed the release of Ksh4.6 billion to other Inua Jamii beneficiaries.
During that cycle, each household received Ksh4,000 instead of the usual Ksh2,000 because payments had been delayed in June due to a data cleanup exercise.
A Lifeline for Families
The Inua Jamii programme is part of the government’s social protection agenda. It supports orphans, the elderly, and persons with severe disabilities. By boosting household stability and human capital development, the initiative continues to fight poverty and inequality across Kenya.
