The Hustler Fund Board has announced the appointment of Henry Tanui as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Financial Inclusion Fund, popularly known as the Hustler Fund. The announcement was made through a statement issued on September 3, 2025.
Tanui takes over from Elizabeth Nkukuu, who has served as the Fund’s inaugural CEO since its inception. His initial term will run for three years, with the possibility of renewal.
The Board praised Nkukuu’s leadership, describing her as a pioneer who laid a strong foundation for the Fund’s growth and impact. Under her stewardship, the Hustler Fund has become a key pillar of Kenya’s financial inclusion agenda.
Tanui, an accomplished financial services professional with over 24 years of experience, brings a wealth of expertise in risk management, MSME lending, personal finance, mortgages, and international trade finance. He has previously held senior positions at Ecobank, Consolidated Bank of Kenya, and the Industrial and Commercial Development Bank of Kenya.
In his acceptance remarks, Tanui emphasized his commitment to scaling up the Fund’s impact.
Government leaders also lauded the Fund’s achievements.
Cooperatives and MSME Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya highlighted that the Hustler Fund has already provided affordable credit to more than 26 million Kenyans. He urged the team to improve repayment rates to strengthen beneficiaries’ credit scores and expand financial literacy programs.
MSME Development Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni noted that through the Fund, over 9 million Kenyans have improved credit histories, making them more bankable to mainstream financial institutions. She thanked Nkukuu for her leadership and welcomed Tanui to his new role.
Nkukuu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, saying she was proud of the Fund’s achievements and wished her successor success.
The appointment of Henry Tanui signals a new chapter for the Hustler Fund as it seeks to deepen its role in financial inclusion, economic empowerment, and MSME growth in Kenya.
